An accident that occurred early on Wednesday morning on Interstate 55 in Pike County resulted in the death of a motorcyclist. Officials from the Mississippi Highway Patrol say the event happened on October 2 at about 7:30 a.m.
Based on preliminary results, a 1986 Honda motorcycle headed north on I-55 swerved off the road and collided with a cable barrier. For 29-year-old Joseph Lodrigue of Brookhaven, certified dead at the spot, the impact proved fatal.
Authorities have stated that while they try to identify the elements behind the sad event, the inquiry is still under progress. As more information becomes available, further updates will be published.

Following a devastating tragedy in Madison, an eight-year-old girl was hit by a school bus and subsequently passed away from her injuries. On October 2, the event happened at the junction of Cobblestone Drive and Rockwood Drive about 4:20 p.m.
The child regrettably did not survive but was taken to the University of Mississippi Medical Centre (UMMC) in critical state following the crash. The juvenile victim named by the Madison County Coroner as Jeanelle Fredericks. Local officials expressed thanks for continuous support and prayers for the family, school community, doctors, first responders engaged in action. Results of the ongoing inquiry will be given to the Madison/Rankin County District Attorney’s Office.
Law enforcement responded to public conjecture on social media about the state of the bus driver by verifying that a DUI/Drug Recognition expert was on hand at the incident. Although preliminary tests have not shown any evidence of impairment, toxicological samples have been sent for additional study and findings are awaited.
The Madison County School District expressed great grief at the death of a young student. The district expressed sympathy to Jeanelle’s family and friends in a released statement and detailed plans to offer extra counselling sessions at Madison Avenue Upper Elementary and Madison Avenue Elementary. Families are urged to get support during this trying time by getting in touch with the counselling departments of the institution.
