The Lake County Coroner’s Office reports that a 21-year-old from Waukegan passed very tragically in North Chicago on Tuesday night. Arriving at the area near 24th Street and Bobby Thompson Motorway, emergency responders—including personnel from North Chicago Police, North Chicago Fire and Lake Bluff Fire Departments—arrived at about 11:40 p.m. to document a significant single-vehicle crash.

Arriving responders found a car that had rolled off the road and left the only occupant severely injured. The impact resulted in partial ejection; the truck finally landed on top of the person and trapped them under. The car suffered significant damage that would not allow much possibility for repair.

On scene, paramedics declared the motorist dead. After a Lake County Coroner’s Office investigation, the man turned out to be Tywaun Reed, age 21. An autopsy verified the cause of death was blunt force trauma from the rollover crash.

Based on early data, the car had apparently been involved in an earlier incident where it ran away from police. Authorities did stress, though, that at the time of the crash no active search was under place. Leading the continuous inquiry on the facts behind this sad tragedy is the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).

A community in grief over this terrible loss is left, and officials are still trying to learn the specifics of the event. The circumstances reminds us soberly of the unanticipated results of choices taken during a panic attack.
