The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency reports that a terrible two-vehicle crash in Bullock County claimed a fatality this past week. About five miles east of Midway, close to mile marker 213, the event happened around 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday along U.S. Highway 82.
According preliminary reports, a Freightliner Cascadia tractor-trailer was head-on collision with a Toyota 4 Runner. The strong force of the collision immediately killed the operator of the Toyota, 39-year- Montgomery resident Guadalupe Hernandez-Gomez. Authorities found upon arrival that Hernandez-Gomez had not been wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident, which would have added to the degree of the tragedy.
Although the degree of the injuries the Freightliner driver suffered is not known at yet. Based on current data, no one else was involved in the crash.
Along with state troopers, local emergency responders were quickly on the site to control traffic and start an extensive inquiry. While rescuers evaluated the site to make sure no more imminent risks were present, the road stayed partly blocked.
