According to the authorities, four people tragically lost their lives throughout the course of the weekend as a result of separate deadly collisions that occurred across the state of Kansas. According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the first tragic incident happened Friday, around 11 miles northeast of Colby in Thomas County at 9:44 p.m.

Just south of the junction of County roads 21 and CC, a 2007 Ford F-250 pickup truck crashed. At the scene Emma C. Brungardt, a 19-year-old Blue Rapids passenger, was declared dead. Five more truck passengers were sent to Citizens Medical Centre in Colby for evaluation and possible injury treatment.

On Saturday in Labette County, there was reported another death at 3:40 a.m. Identified as 30-year-old Spencer Alex Gatewood from Altamont, the driver of a 2019 Hyundai Elantra lost his life in a single-vehicle incident close to the intersection of 24000 Road and Jackson Road, around three miles west of Parsons. Authorities verified that Gatewood was travelling alone at the incident.

A two-vehicle crash on US-75 highway later that same day at 5:08 p.m. claimed the life of a 77-year-old woman from Topeka, Dianna Faye Slavens. According to the patrol, two more people were sent to a local hospital with major injuries from the collision.

On Saturday in Montgomery County, in southeast Kansas, the fourth death happened at 9:20 p.m. On US-169 highway, near the west side of Cherryvale, Matthew Wayne Creed, 33-year-old Parsons resident, was killed in a collision between his 2008 Toyota Scion and a 2025 Freightliner semitrailer.
