John Allen Astin of Baltimore, Maryland, has died. He died at age of 94. The terrific American actor and director John Allen Astin was born on March 30, 1930, and was retired before his death. His death has gone across the social media space with several persons acknowledging the beautiful and exotic life he lived. According to reports he died on September 29, 2024. His cause of death was not disclosed at the time of this report. He will be deeply missed by his fans and his family, especially Sean Astin.
About John Astin
He has a long history of performing on stage, television, and in movies, mostly in character roles. His portrayal of patriarch Gomez Addams in The Addams Family (1964–1966) has made him well-known. He returned to the character in the television movies Halloween with the New Addams Family (1977) and The Addams Family (1992–1993). Astin has had three marriages. Actor Sean Astin is the adopted son of actor Patty Duke, who was Astin’s second wife.
Margaret Linnie (née Mackenzie) and scientist Allen Varley Astin, the head of the National Bureau of Standards (now the National Institute of Standards and Technology), welcomed Astin into the world. Astin was living on Battery Lane in Bethesda, Maryland, at the time with his family. After transferring from Washington & Jefferson College, he earned his degree from Johns Hopkins University in 1952. He attended Washington & Jefferson to study mathematics before attending Johns Hopkins to study acting. He was a member of the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi at Hopkins.
Astin began his career in theater, doing voice-over work for commercials and his Broadway debut as an understudy in Major Barbara (1954). He played “Ready-Money Matt” in the popular off-Broadway show Threepenny Opera, which starred Lotte Lenya and ran for several years starting in 1954.[5] His little appearance in West Side Story (1961) served as his huge cinematic break.
