Faye Haner Death: Tragic news surfaced from North Tonawanda on Friday night following an outside Walmart tragic incident. A 74-year-old female pedestrian was killed by an SUV in the parking lot, according to North Tonawanda Police Chief Keith Glass.
Identified as Faye Haner of North Tonawanda, the person was using the crosswalk during the event. Reportedly failing to give the right of way, an SUV driven by a 56-year-old man had a catastrophic crash. Arriving authorities said that responders discovered Haner caught under the car, where she had fatal injuries and was declared dead on scene.
The Walmart store was thus briefly closed while law officers secured the area and started the investigation. Officials verified that the SUV driver is completely assisting the investigation. Local neighbours had safety issues following the collision; some are unhappy over earlier events whereby automobiles did not stop at designated pedestrian areas.
Tonawanda resident Daniel Lassiter noted the circumstances and underlined the need of awareness even in designated crosswalks. “Having to walk somewhere, even with this Walmart, it’s very very very crucial to look both ways,” he said. “You can’t necessarily always assume that a car is going to step back and let you go by.” Lassiter said.
North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec interacted with store management in response to the incident, pointing out that the Walmart team has showed eagerness to assist in the inquiry and offer mental health help to everyone impacted by the sad event. As the community grieves the death and looks for ways to stop similar tragedies, calls for more safety precautions including the installation of more stop signs.
Authorities still have to reveal more information, an ongoing investigation is still under progress.
