One of the young lives lost in a horrific car collision in Bedford County has been identified. The incident happened on September 27 evening, when local police were notified of a major collision at Bellevue Road, just north of Route 221 at roughly 10:10 p.m.

preliminary investigations show that after losing stability, a Volkswagen Jetta headed northward swerved off the road. The car then ran into a fence and severely damaged a neighbouring tree. Arriving fast at the scene, emergency response personnel enabled quick transportation to a medical centre.

Identified as a 17-year-old Forest resident, the driver was brought to Lynchburg General Hospital where two days later, on September 29, catastrophic injuries resulted in death.

The event reminds us soberly of the unpredictable nature of traffic situations and the frailty of life. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision while they try to identify contributory causes and compile further information.

Families and communities still struggle with the loss of the sudden death of such a young person whose life was cut short.
