It has been determined by the Lake County Coroner’s Office that the person who was fatally shot on Thursday night outside of a liquor store in Hammond is the guy who was killed. Following the incident, 45-year-old Alejandro Moreno of Hammond was declared deceased; this classification is that of a homicide.
Authorities said the incident happened outside Nick’s Liquors, at 4718 Calumet Avenue, about 8:30 p.m. The Hammond police claim that the sad incident resulted from a confrontation inside the bar before the firing.
Moreno got bullet wounds to his hand and the chest during the fight. Shortly after the incident, emergency responders were sent to St. Catherine Hospital in East Chicago where he was found dead. The next day an autopsy was carried out to find further information on the cause of death.
A bystander, not immediately engaged in the conflict, was also shot in the shoulder and chin. Fortunately, last week this person was said to be in stable condition.
The Hammond police aggressively search for information about the incident and advise anyone who saw it happen or was close by at the time to come forward. People having relevant information are advised to call the Hammond Police Department at 219-852-2906. The neighbourhood is still in shock over this sad event; authorities are still looking into the background of the incident.
