Daniel Wahlgren, Ellicott, Bemus Point high school graduate died at age 77

Daniel Wahlgren, 77, of Ellicott, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 28, 1947, in Jamestown, NY, Daniel was the son of the late Edward and Kathryn Cederquist Wahlgren. He graduated from Bemus Point High School in 1965 and furthered his education at Jamestown Community College, where he earned his associate degree.

A dedicated member of the community, Daniel was a life-time member of the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Station 1, as well as an active member of Vikings Lodge IOV 65 and Boy Scouts of America Troop 169. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, cherishing every moment spent with his family. Daniel enjoyed collecting antiques, attending household sales, and working in his yard.

His passion for Christmas was unmatched—he loved decorating for the holidays, filling his home and yard with festive lights and decor. His extensive collection of Santas was a particular source of pride, and he delighted in sharing it with family and friends each holiday season.

Daniel spent many years working as a produce manager at Acme Markets, Quality Markets, and Tops Friendly Markets, earning him the nickname “Dan-Dan the Produce Man.” After retiring, he found joy working with Jane Derby Household Sales.

Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 53 years, Susan Seymour Wahlgren, whom he married on October 9, 1971; his daughter Sara Hagg of Concord, NC; his two sons, Bryan Wahlgren of Jamestown, NY, and Aaron (Leslie) Wahlgren of Bemus Point, NY; and his cherished grandchildren, Zachary (Presley Sweet) Hagg and Dawson Hagg of Concord, NC, Makayla Wahlgren and Caleb Wahlgren of Bemus Point, NY, as well as great-grandchildren, Greyson and Waylon Hagg of Concord, NC. He is also survived by his sisters, Susan (Don) Angelo of Jamestown, NY, and Nancy (David) Carlberg of Pittsburgh, PA, along with several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Daniel was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Wahlgren, and his uncle, Carl Millward. A service to celebrate Daniel’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at Lind Funeral Home.

Friends will be received from 3:00 to 5:00 pm on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the funeral home. Burial will take place at Bemus Point Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fluvanna Community Church, Fluvanna Fire Hall, or Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care.
