The Dunkirk-Fredonia community is mourning the loss of Dr. Richard Milazzo, a cherished primary care physician at General Physician, PC, who passed away suddenly at the age of 80. Dr. Milazzo was a dedicated medical professional who served multiple generations of families during his remarkable career spanning over 40 years.
A graduate of the State University of New York at Buffalo and Tufts University Medical School, Dr. Milazzo completed his medical training with an internship at Buffalo General Medical Center and a residency at Dr. Edward J. Meyer Memorial Hospital (now ECMC). His passion for medicine and his patients was evident, even after his formal retirement in 2023. He continued providing care as part of GPPC’s Home Visits team, never ceasing in his commitment to his patients.
Dr. Milazzo’s dedication extended beyond patient care. He was deeply involved with the Brooks-TLC Hospital System, serving on various boards and committees, including the Board of Directors, in an effort to maintain the accessibility of quality health care in Dunkirk. His efforts were widely recognized, earning him the Exemplary Service Award from the ACHE Recognition Program for Healthcare Leaders of New York. Former State Representative Catharine Young commended him as “an outstanding citizen, one who is worthy of the esteem of both the community and the great state of New York.”
Dr. Milazzo leaves behind an enduring legacy of compassion, professionalism, and unmatched dedication to the medical field. His patients, colleagues, and friends will forever remember the kindness and care he shared with everyone he encountered.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Dunkirk office of GPPC Primary Care and all who had the honor of working alongside Dr. Milazzo, whose profound impact on the community will be felt for years to come.
