Efforts for relief and rescue are currently in progress to assist the victims of Hurricane Helene, as millions in the southeastern United States are left without electricity.
Numerous families are receiving support from volunteers in the Houston area.
Hurricane Helene has devastated several states across the southeast, with many homes destroyed and buildings inundated with water.
More than 50 individuals have lost their lives, and millions remain in darkness.
In response, the American Red Cross’ Texas Gulf Coast Region is mobilizing to aid in recovery by dispatching 20 personnel to assist with disaster relief initiatives.
Nine of these volunteers hail from the Houston metropolitan area.
“When hurricanes occur, assistance comes from Florida and the Carolinas to aid us in recovery efforts. Just as we receive help, we also strive to lend our support. We want to share our knowledge and experience with those families navigating the recovery process,” stated Jack Peters, the Regional Disaster Officer for the American Red Cross Texas Gulf Coast.
These volunteers have been deployed to Georgia, North Carolina, and Florida to provide assistance. The first individual was sent out this past Monday.
“They are involved in supporting and sheltering missions, providing meals, managing logistics, distributing supplies, and addressing the needs of families affected by the disaster,” Peters explained.
They are anticipated to remain in the affected regions for at least two weeks, though their stay may be extended depending on the ongoing requirements. Currently, the Red Cross continues to seek volunteers for Hurricane Helene and any potential future disasters.
