The York County Coroner’s Office verified on Friday that a man from Conewago Township who was struck by his own vehicle in Adams County on Thursday passed away at York Hospital after being transported there by helicopter. The incident occurred on Thursday.
It was confirmed by the coroner’s office that Irl Therit Jr., a 63-year-old resident of the 3500 block of Centennial Road in Conewago Township, had passed away as a result of the incident. After parking his manual-transmission rollback flatbed truck on his land, Therit stepped behind the vehicle, which ultimately led to his death, as stated in a statement issued by the coroner’s office.
According to the coroner’s office, after Therit was behind his vehicle, the brakes of the vehicle failed to hold, and the vehicle ultimately collided with Therit. Additionally, the office has determined that there were no other individuals involved in the collision.
After being transported to Wellspan York Hospital with life-threatening injuries, Therit ultimately passed away as a result of his injuries at around 3:11 p.m. On Thursday, according to the release.According to the announcement, there will not be an autopsy performed; however, a standard toxicological test was performed. His home on Centennial Road served as the location of Therit’s Auto Repair, which he owned and operated under his own name.
According to the records kept by Adams County 911, emergency services were dispatched to the location of a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle at around 1:33 p.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024. The property in question was situated on the 3500 block of Centennial Road in Conewago Township.
