The community at Hawthorne Gardens Senior Living announces the unexpected death of Justin Pickering which occurred last month. Among the residents, Justin’s presence was familiar and beloved, the husband of Sheena, the Life Enrichment Director. Always seen helping with events, activities, and friendly interactions with everyone; his kindness impacted many lives and created relationships that will be much missed.
Friday, August 2, started the terrible series of events when Justin woke up with numbness in his arm and thought it was only from sleeping in an uncomfortable posture. But as he tried to stand, he discovered the numbness had progressed to his leg and collapsed unable to keep balance. Emergency services were notified right away, but Justin’s condition worsened—he stopped breathing during ambulance transfer.
When paramedics arrived at the hospital, a large brain haemorrhage was found even though they valiantly tried to stabilise him. Rushing him into emergency surgery, the medical team raced quickly to treat the swelling in his head as the weight of his condition became evident. Sadly, at barely 46 years old, Justin could not heal from the extreme stress despite every intervention.
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to help Sheena and her family with growing medical bills and provide some relief during an unbelievably tough period. Any kind of contribution as well as ongoing prayers are much valued as they negotiate this difficult path of loss and healing.
Support from the extended community is evidence of the impact Justin made in his brief but significant life; his memory will live through the love and happiness he provided to the lives he touched.
