LaVerne Hamill Gulliver, MI, graduate of Manistique high school died at 83

LaVerne “Vern” L. Hamill Sr., 83, of Gulliver, MI, passed away unexpectedly on September 25, 2024. Born in Manistique, MI, on March 24, 1941, to Gordon and Genevieve (Roy) Hamill, Vern was a 1959 graduate of Manistique High School. He married Linda DuFour, the love of his life, on October 22, 1960, and together they raised five children in Gulliver.

Vern is survived by his children, LaVerne Jr. (Lori) Hamill of Beaver, WI, Larry (Julie) Hamill of Green Bay, WI, Sherri (Todd) Dessell of Suamico, WI, Nikki (Herb) Burton of Gulliver, MI, and Melissa (Tony) Ronsman of Green Bay, WI. He was the proud grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Vern is also survived by his siblings, Shirley Benish, Marie Tyda, Gordon (Janet) Hamill, and Ed (Helen) Hamill.

A dedicated worker, Vern spent 23 years at Inland Lime and Stone and 25 years as a beloved bus driver for Manistique Area Schools. He enjoyed hunting, snowmobiling, bowling, and coffee with friends at Hardee’s. Known for his bright yellow car with eyelashes, he brought joy wherever he went.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws, and several siblings and extended family members. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the VFW Hall in Manistique. Memorial donations can be sent to the family for future designation. Arrangements are being handled by Fausett Family Funeral Homes.
