Local police confirm that a constable died while tending to the site of a vehicle collision on Wednesday night. Age 26, Deputy Lex Allen Love was travelling County Road 4421 to the crash location when he ran against a concrete barrier inside a construction zone. When fellow deputies arrived at the cruiser, he was not waking and they started life-saving actions right away.
While he was being transported to the hospital, emergency medical staff kept trying resuscitation; nonetheless, later that evening Deputy Love passed away from his injuries.
Love was described by the Wise County Sheriff’s Office as “an incredibly kind, young constable” who had a big influence on the town. Originally hired as a jailer, he later attended police school training. After serving with the Decatur Police Department, he went back to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and diligently worked as a deputy.
“Lex is one of the best law enforcement officers to ever wear the DPD and WCSO badges,” the sheriff’s office said in a touching homage on social media. His death leaves behind a “Beautiful and loving young family,” therefore creating an irreplaceable hole in the Wise County Law Enforcement community.
This sad event emphasises the natural risks law enforcement personnel encounter while handling crises and working nonstop to serve and guard their areas of influence. With further tributes and support expected for Deputy Love’s family over the next days, the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and the larger community are grieving the death of a cherished member.
