The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the lady tragically murdered in a rear-end collision in east Bakersfield on Saturday night. The victim is Bakersfield resident Lorena De La Torre-Luna, 47 years old. De La Torre-Luna’s car was stopped along East Truxtun Avenue’s north curb at the intersection with Miller Street at about 11:14 p.m., when a Dodge Durango, headed westbound, crashed severely against her rear. At the scene De La Torre-Luna was declared dead and suffered fatal injuries.
Following the incident, a passenger in De La Torre-Luna was quickly driven to a local hospital in critical state. The Dodge Durango’s driver was restrained by security guards until Bakersfield Police Department officials arrived; he suffered no injuries.
Authorities believe that both alcohol and speed might have contributed to the accident, so more research on the events surrounding it is under progress. As the investigation advances, further details about the occurrence are expected.
