Michael Henning Berkeley, CA, KALX (90.7 FM) DJ died on October 4

Michael Henning, a radio personality known as Megasoup from Berkeley, California, passed away. He was shocked as he departed the KALX group. We are all really saddened by this great loss. Michael began working at KALX in 2003 and has since shown himself to be one of the most thoughtful, diligent, giving, and incredibly knowledgable DJs, volunteers, and music directors we have ever had the pleasure of working with. Michael’s influence in the lives of many colleagues, volunteers, students, other musicians, and DJs had a profound effect.

He is an authority on global music and has worked as a buyer at Berkeley’s Amoeba for more than 20 years. He was adamant about maintaining the distinctive and varied sound of KALX and pushed DJs from various backgrounds and interests to advance their abilities. As a musician, Michael released music on Bandcamp under the aliases The Why Because, Skyminds, and Selaroda (a solo project). Michael meant a lot to the many people in this community of music lovers. Do not hesitate to share your recollections of Michael with us. Our sympathies and thoughts are with his family.

The cause of his death was not made public by his family at the time of reporting. They have the option of making the obituary and funeral plans public. Kindly remember them with love and in your prayers.
