Following a protracted battle with diabetes and kidney failure, Rachael Lea (Meskimen) Hillard passed away at 44 years old, quietly, surrounded by loved ones on September 10, 2024. Born on February 5, 1980, in Sullivan, Indiana, early life was spent in Robinson, Illinois, with siblings Russell, Carson, and Abigail, following hospital policies excluding dads from delivery rooms.
Beyond high school, she enrolled in college classes, obtained a Certified Nursing Assistant license, and shown real compassion and sensitivity in caring. Learning was a lifetime quest even with an Associate of Arts degree and many more credits.
She always had her daughter Corie around to share special events. Adventures ranged from family fishing excursions to casino visits to horse races to motorbike rides to athletic events to mushroom hunts. Her days were lit with amusement parks, parades, and fireworks; quarter games with family, homemade chicken and noodles, and holiday celebrations were treasured customs. Every season had a highlight—the annual Christmas cookie decorating contest.
Friends and relatives both treasure memories of her vivid, open demeanour mixed with a very kind character. Called fondly “Rachie Poo-Poo Bear” by siblings, nieces, and nephews, the loss leaves a hole in many people’s hearts.
Parents Parker and Therese Meskimen, brothers Russell (Ruth Ann) and Carson Meskimen, sister Abigail Meskimen, nieces and nephew Mason, Bryonna, Kendall, and Parker, as well as extended relatives and dear friend Sam survived daughter Corie Rachael (Gonzalez). preceded by grandparents Russell and Kathryn (Eveland) Meskimen and Jess and Mary (Serino) Miller, her legacy lives in the memories shared.
