At 67 years of age, Randall Lee Holcombe’s family has decided to declare his sudden passing on September 23, 2024. Born on December 5, 1956, in Asheville, North Carolina, to late Virginia Carson Holcombe and Kenneth Holcombe, Randy. Graduating from A.C. Reynolds High School in 1975, Randy was a proud alumnus. He participated actively on the basketball and golf teams there, building lifelong friendships that would follow him.
Randy was a real life enthusiast, driven in several disciplines including cooking, cycling, hiking, and golfing. He loved music especially, and he particularly loved The Beatles. Randy was well-known for his fast wit and contagious laughter and had a great love of films. Although he loved Tar Heel basketball, lately his attention was drawn to Caitlin Clark’s on-court performance. Fond of animals, particularly dogs, Randy was appreciated by everyone he came across because of his friendly demeanour.
All he did reflected his relentless devotion for his family. “He gave the best hugs and was always so welcoming to my friends,” Marshall said, remembering his father’s consoling presence. Attending Tori’s soccer games and Jack’s T-ball events, Randy was a consistent supporter who also made many Friday nights unique by cooking “the best spaghetti in the land,” as Tommy says.
Randy gained the beloved moniker “Handy Randy” for his constant readiness to offer a helpful hand—shown by his tool box to tackle any difficulty. His loved ones and all those who had the good fortune to encounter his generosity and compassion will be much missed.
Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 1 p.m., the celebration of Randy’s life will take place in the Fellowship Hall of Groce Methodist Church at 954 Tunnel Rd, Asheville, NC 28805.
