Ross Cowie, Founder of Lucky2BHere, Died After Transfer To Raigmore Hospital

Born on February 13, 1960, in Portree, Isle of Skye, Scotland, Ross Cowie was a well-known sports and philanthropist with outstanding on- and off-field performance. Lucky2BHere reported the sudden death of its founder at Raigmore Hospital. The charity revealed that Mr. Cowie died on 6 Oct. Sunday night following his relocation to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

Known affectionately as “The Colonel,,” a long and successful career including formation of a life-saving charity organization “Lucky2BHere” and a significant part in shinty. Not revealed at the time of posting are the specifics following his untimely death.

Renowned throughout the shinty world, a long-standing relationship with Skye Camanachd marked a period of success and leadership. Under legendary management, the team triumphed in the elite Camanachd Cup in 1990. Before this success, he led the Skye second team towards a 1988 Sutherland Cup victory. A dedication to the game spans three separate terms as manager over the years, equating to eight years of club service.

Sporting ability ran clearly in the family; Ross’s father, Willie, played Skye Camanachd and Lovat Shinty Club, while his uncle, Dave, was a football player for Aberdeen FC in 1939. But tragedy entwined with the family past. Early on, a hereditary disorder called dilated cardiomyopathy claimed several cousins. The same disorder would change his own path in life.

A major diagnosis resulted in a retreat from the physical challenges of the sport, but his effect was still great. Acting as club president and subsequently assistant manager in 2010, the commitment to shinty persisted in face of medical challenges.

A turning point came in 2006 with an unannounced cardiac arrest. His life was spared by a lucky meeting with an ambulance crew on route. In response, the registered Scottish charity Lucky2B Here sought to make sure others might gain from training access to life-saving tools.

Sincere sympathies are sent to his loved ones and all those touched by his kindness and vision, with tremendous grief. Every life Lucky2B Here has rescued still reflects the ongoing influence of Ross Cowie.
